FIDM Student Featured in Forbes Magazine

Born in Colorado and raised in Arizona, FIDM Student Carolyne Morton was recently interviewed by Forbes magazine thanks to her determination and passion for education.

There are all kinds of paths to FIDM and Morton's is a fascinating one. She served as an Information Technology Specialist at the Pacific Command Joint Intelligence Operations Center in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii from 2013 to 2017, and received an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration and Management from Hawaii Pacific University while serving. "I loved my time in the Navy but wanted to pursue my passion at a school that thrived off of creativity and was in the heart of a city with opportunities," she says. Since moving to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Beauty Marketing & Product Development last year, the beauty enthusiast has worked at an upscale lifestyle spa in Beverly Hills with high-profile and celebrity clients.

Morton happened to be chatting with Forbes writer NJ Goldston about education and her time at FIDM. "We touched on the topic of a masters degree, which I told her I wanted to get," she says. "That's when she asked to feature me in the article." The story, entitled "Should You Go Back For Your MBA To Further Your Career Or To Be A Better Entrepreneur?" featured viewpoints from different women in different careers around the country. Morton said, "I am continuing on with my Bachelor of Science in Business Management from FIDM. I have the desire to complete my education with a Master's Degree in Business Administration. I currently work in the field I hope to own a business in (a place that is innovative and offers a variety of services), but wouldn't want to do that without a sturdy base of schooling to work from."

As for her time at FIDM so far? "I love it," she says. "It's hard, it is time consuming, and it can be stressful. I think what makes it so great is that the students here are intrigued to learn, the class sizes are not so big so it allows each student to really get what they need out of the course, and I can get this degree done both on campus and off. The connections, the education, and the resources available to me that FIDM has to offer will all play a huge role in improving my career."
